Pre-Pitch Movement
All great fielders learn to establish a "pre-pitch" routine. The "pre-pitch" routine is a routine that begins the fielding process for the fielder. The "pre-pitch" routine occurs just prior to the fielder moving into the ready position and prior to the pitch reaching home plate. The "pre-pitch" movement can be as simple as a small shuffling of the feet or as slight as a small forward hop. Whatever method used by the fielder is not as important as the fielder maintaining balance so that the fielder is ready to move in any and in all directions at the precise moment the ball is batted.
The fielder must establish forward movement.
The fielder should not sit back on her heels.
