All great fielders learn to establish a "pre-pitch" routine. The "pre-pitch" routine is a routine that begins the fielding process for the fielder. The "pre-pitch" routine occurs just prior to the fielder moving into the ready position and prior to the pitch reaching home plate. The "pre-pitch" movement can be as simple as a small shuffling of the feet or as slight as a small forward hop. The fielder must establish forward movement.
The fielder should not sit back on her heels.
