Triple Crown/USA Nationals, Reno/Tahoe, NV, July 16-19, 2013
“The TC/USA Nationals is a true national championship with top teams from across the United States,” said TC/USA Nationals Director Krista Judge. “The selection committee spends a lot of time during the selection process and uses the TC/National Rankings, both national and regional, in helping to choose the teams. Clubs are also selected using at-large criteria which includes their body of work on the field, current roster strength, current coach, and history of the organization.”
This year’s 18U bracket consists of 80 teams representing over 12 different states. Included in the field are 13 of the top 20, 30 of the top 50, and 48 of the top 100 teams in America. The 16U bracket features 40 teams from 8 states.
Notable teams in the 18U field include the No. 2 ranked Worth Firecrackers, who look to defend their 2012 title, last year’s runner-up Corona Angels (No. 3), and No. 6 Texas Impact who placed 6th a year ago. The Gold Coast Hurricanes (No. 7), Arizona Storm (No. 8), and Wichita Mustangs (No. 9) round out the teams currently ranked in the top 10.
The newly-constructed 10 field all-turf Golden Eagle Sports Complex will play host to the tournament amongst other premier sites. Lake Tahoe and the Sierra Nevada Mountains provide a beautiful background for this national championship and teams will have many opportunities to enjoy their stay.
“The cities of Reno, Sparks, and Tahoe are all excited to be hosting this year’s national event,” Judge said. “Players and families will really enjoy the area and will have plenty of fun activities to do when not at the ball field.”
Teams will be seeded into separate double elimination brackets based on their TC/National rankings and then placed into a single elimination bracket depending on their finish in the double. The winners of each double elimination bracket will appear in the top single elimination championship bracket.
The 18U semifinal and championship games in the top single elimination bracket will air live and in HD on CBS Sports Network on Friday, July 19 at 4pm ET and 6:30pm ET. CBS Sports Network is available across the country through local cable, video and telco providers and via satellite on DirecTV Channel 613 and Dish Network Channel 158.
